Design

The Dell G15 laptop has an okay build quality but lacks durability due to its cheap-feeling plastic chassis and flex in the display and keyboard deck. Its simple design isn’t heavy on the gamer aesthetic, but its bulky and heavy power adapter and bulky hinge may be disappointing. The hinge feels smooth and solid, but there’s too much resistance for one-handed opening, which may be disappointing.

Screen and Display of this laptop

The 1080p 120Hz panel offers better responsiveness and clearer images but slow response times, causing ghosting. The 1080p 165Hz panel has a faster but slower response time of 13ms. The 1440p display is sharper but requires NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti for optimal performance. The 16:9 aspect ratio is suitable for gaming and media consumption but may not provide enough vertical space for productivity.

Performance

The Dell G15 5520, powered by an Intel Core i5-12500H, has excellent storage drive performance, allowing for quick boot times, app launch, and file transfer. However, it has poor battery life, making it essential for gaming and demanding tasks. Despite being behind Apple’s M1 Pro and M1 Max SoCs, it is among the best for x86 CPUs of its generation.

Battery and Keyboard

The Dell G15 gaming laptop features a spacious keyboard with a standard layout, but the plastic keycaps are not premium. The keyboard has good travel and doesn’t cause fatigue. The backlight can be toggled between two brightness levels, but not color. Options include 4-zone RGB and 12-zone RGB backlights.
